For many of us, charity is a favour that we do onto the poor and the needy. I feel that it is the poor and the needy who do us a favour. They remind us of how privileged and spoiled we are. They help us keep our greed and pride in check. They remind us that there are no pockets in shrouds or storage containers in graves. They give us a chance to open our closets, kitchen cabinets and wallets.
-Allah increases our rizq when we spend on the poor and needy (Muslim).
-The angels make dua for us because of them. The angels pray, "O Allaah, bless those who give in charity." (Bukhari)
-It is because of them we are saved from great and often sudden damages, distress and disasters in our personal lives (at-Tirmidhi).
-It is because of them we'll have a shade on the Day of Judgment (at-Tirmidhi).
-It is because of them hellfire will be extinguished for us (at-Tirmidhi).
Ya Allah, allow us to love and serve the poor people. Give us eyes that see the best in people, a heart that forgives the worst, a mind that forgets the bad, and a soul that never loses faith. Ameen
