Gratitude Journal - Life Goals

"Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer. And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good.” -- Maya Angelou

T - 33 - Alhamdulillah I am happy that I had to take some time off of work. At first I was bummed about the loss of income, loss of friends and purpose. Then this loss led me to question the goal of a Muslim's life. Am I living to work or living to serve Allah? Am I just a part of a factory? A cog in a machine? Is the greatest aspiration of my life only to buy a house, and then work for the remainder of my life to pay for that house? Squeeze a few Salaat in between if I can? What aspirations am I going to pass down to my children? Are they going to to live to buy expensive things they can't afford - for generations?

Sometimes Allah takes something mediocre away from us to give us something better. Alhamdulillah for work that Allah made me quit; it helped me refocus on my goal.

The ultimate goal of a Muslim is Jannah. We are not created for this Earth. We are created to be with Allah in Jannah, our real home. We can use our career to acquire Jannah. We serve our elderly parents for Jannah. Jannah requires that we spend our time and money in community-building projects. Jannah necessitates that we learn about Allah and everything that He has communicated to us in the Qur'anand through His Messenger (s.a.w). No doubt, Jannah calls for gratitude in good times, patience in times of difficulty and servitude, always.

May Allah grant each of us the understanding of His Plan, and of the magnificent purpose. And may He give us the zeal to prepare and work for Jannah using all our strengths and our unique capacities ameen.
